Qld TPI Association - Profile

The Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex Servicemen and Women (Queensland Branch) Inc. is a member of The Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex-Servicemen and Women Limited (ACN 008 591 704).

We aren't Government organisations, but rather groupings of ex-servicemen and women who have been classified by the Department of Veterans' Affairs as TPI under the Veterans' Entitlements Act and subsequent Acts.

The Association originated in Victoria in 1926. A Branch was later formed in Queensland during 1939. The inaugural meeting of the Queensland Branch took place on Friday 15th September. On 8 April 1941, two delegates were nominated to represent the Queensland Association on the Federal Council.

At the Federal Congress held in Brisbane in 1952, it was agreed that this Association be known as "The Totally and Permanently Disabled Soldiers Association" and that the "TPI" be retained for abbreviation purposes. TPI is now used as the centre of the badge, and as a general term referring to the Association.

The Association is open to anyone who has been granted a TPI pension from the Department of Veterans Affairs and wants to keep up with the latest information or just wants to meet with like-minded people.

Objectives of TPI Association

There are 13 Social Centres in Queensland, which meet regularly and provide valuable input into the work and future projects of the Association as a whole. They collect membership subscriptions and report to the State Executive on a regular basis. They also arrange social outings and attend to the various welfare needs of individuals in each of these regions.

Social Centres Hold general meetings monthly - usually preceded by a committee meeting. All financial members of that Social Centre can attend, raise issues and vote. Minutes, financial statements and notification of events are sent to State Office after each meeting.

Queensland Executive The State Management Committee is elected every year at the Annual General Meeting, in February. The Committee meets monthly.

Quarter Meetings Held every February, May, August and November These are General Meetings, where any member can attend, raise issues and vote. The meetings are held at various locations throughout the State. Locations are advised via the State Journal.

Federal TPI There is a Federal TPI Association which holds two General Congresses each year, in March and September. Queensland TPI sends two Directors to these meetings and these are normally the President and the Secretary. The Directors take Federal issues raised by Queensland members to these congresses. At the General Congresses, States are represented by two Directors and Territories by one each that are entitled to vote. There is a Federal President and Secretary, but they are not entitled to vote. Issues passed at these congresses are actioned by the Federal Executive. Only the Federal President has the right to be spokesman for the organisation on a national basis.
